This research examines how food is utilized in Leila Aboulela’s novel The Translator. The study addresses the problems of diasporic identity and cultural connections faced by the protagonist, Sammar, as she navigates her life as a widowed Muslim mother in Scotland. Specific gaps in this research lie in exploring how food is a powerful tool to evoke emotions, memories, and cultural identity in diasporic narratives. This research analyzes how culinary elements function as a means of communication, cultural expression, and emotional remembrance in the novel. The findings reveal that food in The Translator symbolically bridges the gap between Sammar's past and present, acting as a cultural heritage vessel and a pathway to rediscovering her roots. While maintaining her Muslim identity, the novel used food as a symbol of spiritual connection and adherence to religious practices, showcasing how culinary traditions intertwine with faith, ultimately fostering a sense of belonging and reaffirming cultural ties despite the challenges of diaspora.
