This research aims to analyze the human’s latency period through the children characters in Peter Pan novel using a qualitative method. The novel’s intrinsic elements are analyzed to see the complexity of this children's literature and leads to the analysis of children’s latency period through the make-believe play, where they had roles in it. The analysis is supported with psychoanalysis theory concept of psychosexual personality development by Sigmund Freud. This research discusses that the novel’s complexity comes from the layered sub-plots, unique settings and characters with complex personalities that are uncommon in children’s literature. It then leads to the analysis of the children who are processing their latency period through their activities and the development. Focusing on Peter as a captain and a father, Wendy as a mother and the other boys as the children, all the roles manifest their wishes and desires. The discussion found that the unique, inconsistent and illogical points from the structure can be explained through the analysis of the story’s issue about the latency period, which shows complexity found despite its status as children’s literature.
