Politeness Strategy Applied By The Characters In Greta Movie (2018)

Language has an important role in daily life. To have a good interaction we
not only focus on how to behave with others but also how to be polite when people
are getting interaction in society. This study is about politeness strategies used by
the characters in Greta Movie (2018). The problem of this study: 1. What types of
politeness strategies are there in the Greta movie. 2. How does the Politeness
strategies described by the characters in the Greta movie.
The results of the study show that the researcher found four types of
politeness strategy in fifty-six data which are; first, Bald on record strategy (22
data). Second, positive politeness strategy (22 data). Third, negative politeness
strategy (8 data) and the last, off-record strategy (4 data). Bald on Record and
positive politeness strategy mostly used in this analysis because the characters
already have a close relationship and they used that utterance to minimize the
hearer's face and make them show the embarrassed and threatening face.
