This research studies about Green Book movie directed by Peter Farrelly in
2018. The analysis aims to find out how identity crisis faced by the main character,
Dr. Don Shirley, through the Frantz Fanon concept in his book Black Skin White
Mask. Dr. Donald Shirley was raised by white people value, which had been thought
by his mother since he was a child. He grew differently from the common black
men. The researcher found that Dr. Don Shirley, as the main character, faces an
identity crisis as a black man who behaves like white people. Through the Frantz
Fanon concept in Black Skin, White Mask, Dr. Don Shirley experiencing six steps
of an identity crisis; first, as a black man who lived in the United States that facing
the inferiority within himself. Second, Dr. Don Shirley does not behave like black
men. The third one is, Don Shirley, imitated white people's value and comfort with
that situation. Fourth, he feels the value of black people is not worth having. Fifth,
Don Shirley was struggling with his identity as a black man. The last, as a hope,
Don Shirley is looking for life, love, and generosity. In the last discussion, the
researcher found that Dr. Donald Shirley used music to resolve his identity crisis.
Don Shirley voiced his anxiety as a black person through the classical music he
brought in the Deep South (US), where racial problems often occur. Don Shirley
hopes that through the music he performed, he can accept alongside white people
but fails. In the end, Don Shirley successfully approved with black people by
playing popular black music
