West In Occidental Text: Occidentalisms Of Two Main Characters In Kin-Iro Mosaic

Issues of occidentalism have always been prevalent in the eastern literature,
including several underlying occidental issues that are found in the anime Kin-Iro
Mosaic. This study seeks to analyze aspects of occidentalism in the depiction and
presentation of two western character in the anime, namely Alice Cartalet and
Karen Kujou, by using character analysis and occidentalism theory to understand
how their depiction and presentation in an eastern literature, with the character
analysis divided into three separate analysis, one that focuses on their appearance,
their mindset, and the perception of the east towards them. The result of this
analysis finds that both Alice Cartalet and Karen Kujou still inhibits several
occidental elements on their depiction in the anime Kin-Iro Mosaic which could
be considered stereotypical, to which the perception of the west within an eastern
literature could be said to not have changed and remained the same ever since the
inception of the study of occidentalism.
